Afghanistan / USA:
Afghan singer poisoned in Los Angeles

On New Years Eve, the popular Afghan singer Farhad Darya fell ill and had to interrupt his concert in California. He was rushed to hospital where the doctors found remains of poison in his body

By Hamid Roashan, Afghan2afghan.com

On 31 December 2005, Afghan singer Farhad Darya was giving a New Year’s Evening performance in front of a crowd of between 3,000 and 4,000 Afghans. Two hours after the concert had started, promoters suddenly told the audience that the concert had to be cancelled, after Farhad Darya had left the stage.
Farhad Darya was rushed to hospital in an ambulance where the doctors found remains of poison in his body. He remained at the hospital for some hours.
During a concert, Farhad Darya normally would consume 10-15 bottles of water in order to prevent dehydration while performing. He assumes that someone has poisoned him through his water bottles which he started drinking two hours before the concert was to begin. “I am deeply disappointed because I believe this was done by my own people,” he said in a telephone interview.
Farhad Darya is in good health and has been released from hospital.
