US censorship: New Freemuse report published today

The new Freemuse report 'Singing in the Echo Chamber' written by Eric Nuzum is published today. The report describes how US musicians were affected and banned after 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq.
The title refers to the "echo chamber" of news media. Nuzum will present the report at the IASPM conference on 16-19 February in Nashville.

Turkey: Ferhat Tunç receives international support

The Freemuse campaign for Ferhat Tunç is receiving international attention. Ferhat recently visited Copenhagen and several international organisations now consider how they can support the Turkish singer. The European Council of Artists, Amnesty International and International Pen have discussed further actions with Freemuse.
Ferhat Tunç is to appear in court in May 2006. If convicted, he will face one to three years of imprisonment.

Freedom of musical expression in the Middle East

Freemuse forthcoming report 'Freedom of Musical Expression in the Middles East' is based on a conference held in Beirut last autumn. The report includes discussions amongst and statements by musicians, media people and censors in Northern Africa, Iran, Pakistan and the Arabian Peninsula.
